The Sundial, the student newsroom at San Antonio College, published its reporting on the West Side Sound in two languages. Panel Explores the Roots of San Antonio's West Side Sound ran September 16, 2026. Panel revive las raices del West Side Sound de San Antonio ran September 17, 2026, one day later.
Both versions carry the same byline and the same lead photograph, made at the San Antonio Central Library. The article covers Dissecting the Westside Sound, a presentation and lecture hosted by the San Antonio Public Library and the Latino Collection and Resource Center.
The reporting describes the West Side Sound as a mix of rhythm and blues, rock and Tejano that began decades ago on street corners and at high school dances in San Antonio.
The Sundial is the online student newspaper of San Antonio College, renamed from The Ranger in 2024. This bilingual publication of the same story is presented here as one example of that student newsroom's work.
