San Antonio Musicians Rally for "Sign for Mia Benefit" at Midtown Meetup

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, April 24, 2026 - Local musicians and neighbors will gather Sunday, May 3, from 1 to 6 PM for the Sign for Mia Benefit, a community fundraiser at Mia's Midtown Meetup to help owner Mia Cortez build a new exterior sign for the beloved Midtown neighborhood hangout.

The afternoon benefit features live performances by Spiral Staircase, Julie Good, The Lavens, Loaded, S.A. Blue Cats Brass Band, Brother Dave & the Barrio Blasters, and Xavier Aguirre & Ty Gavin.

Midtown Meetup has become one of San Antonio's most lived-in neighborhood gathering spaces: part bar, part mini market, part kitchen, part social club, part stage. In a 2025 Voyage San Antonio profile, Cortez described Midtown Meetup as a "neighborhood bar-dega" built around low-cost or free classes, pop-ups, workshops, concerts, and connection across Alta Vista, Beacon Hill, Five Points, Monte Vista, and Tobin Hill. She also described the space as open every day, noon to midnight, even holidays.

That open-door spirit is what the benefit aims to make more visible.

"A sign does more than mark a building," said the event organizers. "It helps people find the music, the art, the food, the events, and the neighbors waiting inside. For a place that gives the community somewhere to go seven days a week, visibility matters."

Located on West Russell Place near the historic San Pedro Springs area, Midtown Meetup sits in a part of San Antonio shaped by neighborhood foot traffic, old commercial corners, and generations of local gathering. The City of San Antonio notes that nearby San Pedro Springs Park is the oldest park in the city and was set aside for public use in the 18th century; the National Park Service also recognizes San Pedro Springs as a historic site tied to both Indigenous and European settlement in San Antonio.

Public listings and local coverage describe Midtown Meetup's calendar as wide-ranging: live music, trivia, dart leagues, karaoke, bingo, open mic, jams, book club, poetry slams, day discos, tardeadas, fitness classes, creative workshops, social clubs, a community pantry, loaded baked potatoes, and a full bar. The Sign for Mia Benefit turns that same community energy toward a practical need: helping the neighborhood see and support the place that keeps showing up for it.

The event is promoted by Good Creative Media for community calendar, ticketing, and media distribution purposes.
